Staying Safe on Tribe

Keep your details private, keep chats on the platform, and block anyone who crosses a line.

Keep your personal details private, keep conversations on the platform, and block anyone who crosses a line.

Tribe is built to be a friendly, safe space to chat with students from around the world β€” and nearly every conversation is exactly that. You should never feel pressured to share anything personal, and you always have the tools to end a conversation that doesn't feel right.

πŸ”’ Protect your personal information

Never share:

  • Your personal phone number or email address
  • Your home address or where you are right now
  • Your social media handles
  • Your Tribe login details

Keep every conversation inside Tribe. If someone asks to move to WhatsApp, Instagram or anywhere else, it's fine to say no:

"I'd rather keep chatting here β€” it's what the platform's for, and it keeps things simple for both of us. πŸ™‚"

🀝 Keep it friendly and professional

You're representing your university, but you don't have to be formal β€” just kind. A few lines to hold onto:

  • No offensive language, and don't get drawn into arguments.
  • Stay yourself. Being authentic is different from oversharing.
  • If a question makes you uncomfortable and you're not sure how to answer, you don't have to. Ask your university admin for a second opinion.

🚫 Block anyone who crosses a line

Block a prospective student if they:

  • Make you feel uncomfortable or unsafe
  • Send inappropriate or abusive messages
  • Keep pressing you for personal details
  • Try to move the conversation off Tribe after you've said no

How to block someone

  1. Open the conversation.
  1. Tap β‹― at the top.
  1. Choose Block user.

They can't message you again, and your university admin is notified so they can follow up.

🧑

Trust your instincts. You don't need a reason that would stand up in court β€” if something feels wrong, block and tell your admin. Nobody will think you overreacted.

🧑 Look after yourself

Ambassadoring should be enjoyable. If it's ever not β€” a conversation that's stayed with you, or too many messages landing during exams β€” tell your university admin. They can hide your profile for a while, and your existing chats stay open for when you're ready.
