Getting set up on Tribe

Everything you need before your first chat: activate your account, set up your profile, turn on notifications, and find your way around the platform.

Everything you need before your first chat — about ten minutes, start to finish.

Welcome to Tribe! 👋 Your university has invited you to be an ambassador, so prospective students can hear what studying there is actually like. This page gets you set up and shows you around.

1️⃣ Activate your account

You'll receive an ambassador invitation by email from your university admin. Click Activate account, and you'll be taken straight through to your account.

That's it — there's no password to create.

Next time you want to sign in, go to app.tribeadmissions.com, enter your email address, and we'll send you a code.

Can't find the invitation? Search your inbox and spam for "Tribe".

2️⃣ Set up your profile

Students choose who to message based on your profile, so this is the bit worth five real minutes. A proper photo and a few honest lines get you far more conversations than a blank profile.

Tribe walks you through the basics the first time you sign in — photo, what you study, where you're from. You can always come back and add more.

ℹ️

Your profile stays hidden until your university admin makes it visible. If you've finished it and you're still hidden after a few days, give them a nudge.

3️⃣ Get the app and turn on notifications

When a student messages you, you'll hear about it one of two ways: by email, or as a push notification if you're signed in to the mobile app.

Most ambassadors end up chatting from their phone, so it's worth setting up now:

  1. Download Tribe from Google Play or the Apple App Store.
  1. Sign in with your email and a code.
  1. Tap Allow when it asks about notifications.
⚠️

Don't skip that last step. The app only asks once, and without notifications turned on you'll miss messages.

🎉 That's it — you're live

Students can now find you and start messaging. Try to reply within 24 hours — it's the single thing that makes the biggest difference.

Two ways to get to know the platform from here: watch the ten-minute training below, or skim the quick tour underneath it. Either works.

🧭 A quick tour

Three sections, and you'll spend nearly all your time in the middle one.

Ambassadors

Everyone else representing your university. Worth a look when you're writing your own profile — it's the quickest way to see what a good one looks like.

Chats

Where you'll live — My inbox, with Active and Archived tabs. Every chat with a student sits here, newest at the top, and anything you haven't opened carries a red dot 🔴.

Click a chat, type, send. That's the job.

Archiving. Finished conversations can be archived to keep your inbox readable — it's tucked behind the ⋯ at the top of a chat. Nothing is deleted, and if the student writes again the chat pops straight back into your active list.

Blocking. Also behind the ⋯, as Block user. If someone makes you uncomfortable, pressures you for personal details, or keeps trying to move the chat off Tribe, block them. They can't message you again and your university admin is told so they can follow up.

More

Your profile and settings. On a laptop it's Edit profile, top right. Change your photo, course, languages and bio whenever you like — swapping modules, joining a society, or just fancying a better bio. Updates show immediately.

📚 Want more detail?

Each of these goes deeper than this page does:

  • Your Inbox — reading, replying, archiving and blocking

🧡 One last thing

Nobody expects you to know everything about your university. What you have that a prospectus doesn't is your actual experience — what the course is really like, what you wish you'd known.

Be honest, reply when you can, and say "I don't know, let me ask" when you don't. That's genuinely the whole job. How to Be a Great Ambassador has the rest.
