Languages

Which languages your platform runs in, what you control, and what Tribe configures for you.

Which languages your platform runs in, what you control, and what Tribe configures for you.

Tribe can run your platform in more than one language. Some of it you set yourself from the dashboard; the rest is configured by Tribe when your platform is set up.

🏒 What's set by Tribe

Contact your Account Manager to change any of these:

  • Enabled languages β€” the languages your platform offers, for example English and Nederlands. They appear wherever you or a user picks a language.
  • Default texts per language β€” your institution's tagline, description and default Toast text, in each enabled language.
  • Onboarding questions in each language.

🌍 What you control

The language of your own dashboard

Click the language button in the top bar (EN) and choose another. Only your view changes. On a phone, the switcher is under More.

The language of an invitation

If your platform runs in more than one language, Invite user shows a Language field. It sets the language of the invitation email and becomes the default language of the person's profile. On a single-language platform the field doesn't appear. See Inviting Users.

Toast texts per language

Every Toast can carry a separate message and button text for each enabled language. In Embedding β†’ Create New Toast, use the language tabs in the Toast texts box to switch between languages before typing. A language left empty falls back to English. A Toast shows the text matching the language of the page it sits on. See Website Implementation & Driving Traffic.

Which language an embed shows

The Iframe, Toasts and Carousel follow the language of the web page they're on, read from the page's <html lang> attribute. A page with lang="nl" shows Dutch; a page with lang="en" shows English. There's no language switcher inside the embed.

If a page shows the wrong language, the lang attribute is wrong β€” ask whoever manages your site to correct it. See Embed Not Showing on Your Website.

A user's own language

Ambassadors and prospects can only pick from your platform's enabled languages. If a user chooses a language you later stop offering, they're moved to a language you do.
