Staying Safe on Tribe

Advice and recommendations on staying safe in digital spaces, and student welfare.

Tribe provides a friendly, safe space to chat with students from around the world. As an ambassador, you should never be made to feel uncomfortable while using the platform, nor should you feel obliged to share any personal or social mediainformation.

This guide outlines best practices to help you stay safe, confident, and professional while chatting with prospective students.

1. Protect your personal information

You should never share personal or sensitive details on Tribe, including:

  • Your personal phone number or email address
  • Home address or exact location
  • Social media handles (e.g., Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp)
  • Login details or passwords

Keep all conversations with prospects within the Tribe platform. This protects both you and the prospective student, and ensures support teams can step in if needed.

💡 Pro-tip: If someone asks to move the conversation elsewhere, politely decline and explain that you prefer to keep the conversation on Tribe for safety.

2. Keep conversations professional and respectful

Even though conversations may feel informal, remember that you are representing your institution.

  • Be friendly, welcoming, and supportive.
  • Avoid offensive language, jokes, or comments.
  • Do not engage in arguments, inappropriate discussions, or controversial topics.
  • Stick to your genuine experience: Share your student life, but avoid making official promises or institutional guarantees.

If a question feels uncomfortable or outside your role, it’s okay not to answer it! If you don’t know how to respond, get in touch with your Contact Person at the University for help.

3. Use the blocking function if necessary

Tribe provides built-in tools to help keep your chats safe. You should block a user if they:

  • Make you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
  • Send inappropriate, abusive, or repeated messages.
  • Pressure you to share personal information.
  • Attempt to move conversations off the platform.

🚩 Trust your instincts—if something feels wrong, please report it. If you are ever unsure of anything, contact your admin, who will be able to assist you and provide further guidance.
